9103 Restoration - 2004

Details of the ongoing restoration work throughtout 2004. Further restoration progress at:

One of the heavy cast table legs for the tables running down the center of each saloon. The lino has also been laid but currently rather dusty!

The communication cord along the corridor attached the recently grained and varnished pelmet mouldings.

The recently installed communication gear on the south end of the coach. The gear is routed over the top of the corridor connection to connect both communication cords to the train pipe valve box. The left-hand hand rail is fitted and the pairs of holes mark the positions for the steps.

September 2004

  • The lino is now installed, late September.
  • The communication cord end mechanism is being installed.
  • The window droplights straps have arrived and leather handles for brakevan are on order.
  • Problems fond with end step bolts have caused some rework before corridor connections can be installed.
  • 'Boomerang' modifications to corridor connections are being made to permit connection to the Gresley set. The boomerang is the piece of metal added to the top of the corridor connection to ensure it cannot become locked inside a Gresley Pullman Connection. Although not GW, the coach did have Pullman adaptors and will ensures flexibility in traffic use.
  • Paneling in the corridor will be grained shortly.

New castings for the toilets in 9103. An extra 4 sets have also been cast for 6045 and 650. Now we have to get them machined and Pete Simpson will be kept busy for a few months.

Pattern and the brass castings for the table hinges for the long central tables in the saloon of 9103. Extra sets have also been cast to fit out 9055 and 9369 as well.

 

June-August 2004

  • Fitted the remaining running board on the East side of the coach.
  • Made some repairs to the floor and preparing it to receive the new linoleum - due in early September.
  • Painting the floor with floor paint under where the seats will go.
  • 'Finding' and repairing the Communication Cord gear for the South end, preparing to fit it before the corridor connections are replaced in the Autumn.
  • Reinstated the external bolts for the grab handles in readiness for completing the scumbling on the corridor walls.

May 2004

Present activities are centred around installing new corridor canvasses, completing the running boards and repairing the floor to take new linoleum before completion of the scumbling of the corridor. Also the toilet flushing mechanisms.
